Launched in 2024, the McDermid Debut Award returns to celebrate the brightest new voices in crime fiction across the UK and Ireland.
Awarded annually as part of the Theakston Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival, the McDermid Debut Award celebrates bold storytelling, fresh perspectives and the potential of tomorrow’s bestselling crime writers.
“The winner, announced on Thursday 17 July 2025, will receive a £500 cash prize and an engraved oak beer cask, hand-carved by one of Britain’s last coopers from Theakston’s Brewery, nestled in the heart of North Yorkshire in the beautiful village of Masham.”
All the Shortlisted authors are offered a Weekend Rover to attend the Festival.
